That being said we have a ways to go with restorative practices in our approach to staff but I think that is coming.
I have found that using these practices with guidance allows me to teach skills and at the same time get students to engage more with each other. We have not yet investigated ways to measure the effectiveness but the principal for 7th grade and I (the counselor for 7th) have noticed that we have less drama with these seventh grade students when we have worked with them using these techniques. For instance in 7th grade so far this year I have had only one girl drama incident. This is much less than the 6th grade that has not received this training and much less that 7th grade classes I have had in the past that did not have the restorative aspect of guidance and discipline in past year.
